Fit Note Certification

As at 01 July 2022, legislation changed to allow registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists and Physiotherapists to certify fit notes to patients.  NHS England elearning for Healthcare Hub (elfh) have created an e-learning package for this new cohort of healthcare professionals and available at NHSE elfh Hub (e-lfh.org.uk).

This elfh training package sits alongside two other key resources:

  • Getting the most out of the fit note: guidance for healthcare professionals, which covers the practical task of undertaking a health and work conversation and completing the fit note form
  • Who can issue fit notes: guidance for healthcare professionals and their employers, which provides clarity for healthcare professionals, their employers and regulators as to which professionals can include this task within their scope of practice
  • Both resources are available at Fit note – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  • Please Note: Before this elfh module is completed, it is recommended that the elfh Work and Health training is completed, which will give a general introduction to this area Work and Health – elearning for healthcare (e-lfh.org.uk)
