Staffordshire GP Fellowship Scheme

What is the initiative?

The Staffordshire General Practice Fellowship is a locally funded one-year programme of support for newly qualified GPs beginning a career in General Practice. The Staffordshire Training Hub is delivering the scheme in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to help practices attract, support, and retain tomorrow’s clinical team.

Who is it for?

The Fellowship Scheme is open to newly-qualified GPs who are within their first twelve months post-CCT, whether they are employed in a substantive, fixed-term or locum post. The programme is also open to GPs employed by a PCN in an ARRS GP post. There is a maximum of 25 places available – offered on a first come, first served basis. There is no interview process, however participants must clearly demonstrate via the Application Form that they are committed to engage with the programme of learning and development but most importantly fully participate and complete the programme in their own time.

Aims

The scheme aims to:

• Encourage newly qualified GPs to take up substantive posts in a Staffordshire wide practice
• Assist with their transition from training to fully embedded roles
• Support practices in recruiting and meeting the learning needs of their newly qualified GPs
• The scheme allows newly qualified GPs to engage with leadership skills education, mentoring, coaching and peer networking with each other and local PCNs
• Help GPs gain confidence in leading Quality Improvement Initiatives both within their practices and PCNs
• Ensure that our trainees become our local GPs by building an educational community and supporting workplace-based professional development beyond the end of training
• Help to improve the recruitment and retention of GPs in Staffordshire
